CSS Age Eligibility Calculator

For CSS 2027 you must be at least 21 and not older than 30 on 31 December 2026. That means a date of birth between 1 January 1996 and 31 December 2005. Government servants and a few other groups get 2 extra years, up to 32 (born on or after 1 January 1994).

Rules last checked 26 October 2026 against FPSC notices. Your result stays on your device.

As written on your Matric (SSC) certificate.

Which exam?

Only if one of these applies to you. It adds 2 years to the upper limit.

How FPSC works out your age

  1. Take your date of birth from your Matric certificate.
  2. Find the cut-off date: 31 December of the year before your exam. For CSS 2027 that is 31 December 2026.
  3. Count your age on that day in completed years. Months and days do not push you into the next year.
  4. You are eligible if that number is 21 to 30, or up to 32 if a relaxation applies to you.

Close calls, worked out

  • Born 1 January 1996. On 31 December 2026 you are 30 years and 11 months old. Still 30 in completed years, so you can sit CSS 2027. It is your last one.
  • Born 31 December 1995. You turn 31 on the cut-off date itself. That is one day too many: not eligible for CSS 2027 without a relaxation.
  • Born 31 December 2005. You turn 21 on the cut-off date, which is enough. Born one day later, on 1 January 2006, you wait one more year.
  • Born 29 February. In years without a 29 February your birthday is counted on 28 February. Since the cut-off is in December, it never changes your result.
  • Government servant with 1 year and 11 months of service. The two years must be complete and continuous on the cut-off date. Short by a month means no relaxation for that exam.

Age relaxation: who gets 2 extra years

The upper limit goes from 30 to 32 for:

  • Government servants (including armed forces) with at least two years of continuous service on the cut-off date
  • Residents of Gilgit-Baltistan
  • Residents of Azad Jammu and Kashmir
  • Members of recognised tribes of the tribal areas
  • Candidates from Scheduled Castes and the Buddhist community

Two rules trip people up. First, relaxations do not add up: fitting two categories still gives you 32. Second, the 5 year general relaxation you see in FPSC job adverts does not apply to CSS. You will need proof of your category when you apply, such as a departmental permission certificate for government servants or a domicile certificate.

Is the CSS age limit now 35?

Not yet. In 2025 the National Assembly passed a resolution to raise the upper age limit to 35 and allow five attempts. A resolution is not a rule change: FPSC has to notify it, and as of 26 October 2026it has not. Plan on 30 (or 32 with relaxation). The calculator shows your last exam under the proposal too, so you can see what would change if it goes through.

Mistakes that cost candidates a year

  • Using your CNIC date. FPSC goes by the Matric certificate. If the two differ, check with the Matric date.
  • Counting age on the exam day. The written exam is in February, but your age is fixed on the 31 December before it.
  • Assuming you have three more tries. Attempts and age run out separately. The calculator lists the exams left by age; you can use three of them.
  • Waiting for the 35 limit. Until FPSC notifies it, skipping an exam you are eligible for can mean losing it for good.

Other CSS eligibility rules

  • A bachelor's degree with at least second division or grade C, from an HEC recognised university, complete by the cut-off date.
  • Pakistani citizenship, or domicile of Azad Jammu and Kashmir or Gilgit-Baltistan.
  • Three attempts in total, each within the age limit.
  • The MPT (screening test) comes first; only those who pass it sit the written exam.

This page explains the rules; the official word is FPSC's notice for your exam on fpsc.gov.pk. Check it before you apply.

Questions candidates ask

What is the age limit for CSS 2027?

You must be at least 21 and not older than 30 on 31 December 2026. In dates of birth, that means born between 1 January 1996 and 31 December 2005. Candidates in an age relaxation category can be up to 32, so born on or after 1 January 1994.

On which date does FPSC count my age for CSS?

On 31 December of the year before the exam. The exam date, the MPT date and the date you apply do not matter. Turning 31 in January or February of the exam year does not make you ineligible.

I am 30 years and 11 months on the cut-off date. Can I apply?

Yes. FPSC reads the limit in completed years, so 30 years and 11 months counts as 30. You become ineligible only if you turn 31 on or before the cut-off date.

Which date of birth does FPSC use?

The one on your Matric (SSC) certificate or its equivalent. If your CNIC shows a different date, the Matric record is the one FPSC goes by.

Who gets age relaxation in CSS?

Government servants with at least two years of continuous service on the cut-off date, and candidates from Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, recognised tribes of the tribal areas, Scheduled Castes and the Buddhist community. The relaxation is 2 years, taking the upper limit to 32. You get one relaxation only, even if you fit two categories.

Does the 5 year general age relaxation for FPSC jobs apply to CSS?

No. The general relaxation applies to FPSC recruitment for individual posts. The CSS rules allow only the categories listed for CSS, and no relaxation under any other rule.

Has the CSS age limit been raised to 35?

Not yet. In 2025 the National Assembly passed a resolution to raise the upper limit to 35 and allow five attempts. FPSC has not notified the change, so the limit in force is still 30, or 32 with relaxation. The calculator also shows your last exam under the proposed limit, marked as not in force.

How many times can I take the CSS exam?

Three times, and you must be within the age limit for each one. Sitting the written exam uses an attempt. If you are not sure whether an earlier sitting counted, ask FPSC before you plan around it.

What education do I need for CSS?

A bachelor's degree with at least second division (or grade C) from a university recognised by the HEC. Two year and four year bachelor's degrees both count. The degree must be complete by the cut-off date.
